Cosmetic Dentistry

Studies have shown that a healthy and attractive smile can raise self-esteem, increase confidence and help you make better first impressions on others. Sometimes it doesn’t take much treatment for you to feel MUCH better about your smile, and we offer a variety of subtle yet noticeable ways to enhance your smile. There are also more significant and dramatic treatment procedures and combinations of procedures called “smile makeovers,” that can totally change the appearance of your smile to give you the smile of your dreams!

Veneers

While there is no true specialist associated with cosmetic dentistry, Dr. McLachlan's advanced training in the dental residency program at the University of Utah provided him with the knowledge and experience to perform advanced cosmetic dentistry with precision and excellence.  Dr. McLachlan has an artistic eye and particular enjoyment for cosmetic treatments. Really, all dental treatment aimed to improve the appearance of a patient’s teeth, gum shape and smile can be considered cosmetic in nature.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements used to replace a missing tooth or teeth, helping to stop or prevent jaw bone loss.  By replacing missing tooth roots, implants offer more than an esthetic enhancement, providing people with the strength and durability required to eat all the foods they love, without struggling to chew.  In many cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting structures.  Click HERE for an informational online video about dental implants.

Are Dental Implants Right for Me?

Invisalign

To determine if implants are right for you, a consultation with Dr. McLachlan is needed. During this appointment, Dr. McLachlan will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and gums. This will involve X-rays to ensure that sufficient bone structure exists for placing the implant(s), and to determine the exact location the implant should be placed.

If Dr. McLachlan believes a dental implant case may exceed his scope of practice, he will consult with and possibly refer you to specialists whose work Dr. McLachlan has come to trust.  In this way you will receive the best care available.  At Elmwood Dentistry, we put the patient first.

Composite Restorations

Because composite materials can be bonded to teeth, they allow for more conservative preparations and more natural looking results than silver and other conventional materials. The tooth-colored composite is cured with an intense light and the surface is shaped and polished to match the rest of your tooth, rendering your final crown or filling smooth and virtually undetectable to the eye.

Periodontal Health (Gum Health)

Periodontal Health

According to MedlinePlus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health, about 80 percent of U.S. adults currently have some form of gum disease, ranging from gingivitis to serious periodontal disease. The prevalence of gum disease increases with age, as teeth wear down, gums naturally recede and medications affect oral changes. If your gums feel tender or look red and swollen, you may be at risk for gum disease. Other signs include bleeding and/or receding gums, sensitive teeth and persistent bad breath. Left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss as well as various other health problems. More and more life-threatening illnesses are being linked to the presence of dental diseases, so please call us today so we can help protect your health.

Treatment for Gum Disease

The first thing to do is get a thorough dental evaluation with Dr. McLachlan. If you have any degree of periodontal disease, he can help you. Gum disease used to require surgery more often than not. While surgery is still an option and sometimes needed, many cases are now treated with less invasive techniques first, such as deep dental cleanings, local antibiotics, and special mouth rinses. A healthy body needs a healthy mouth, and a healthy mouth needs healthy gums!

Oral Cancer Is Nothing to Smile About

Oral cancer is one of the most curable diseases when it is caught soon enough, so we provide regular screenings for early detection. Digital x-rays help with this, as well, because they allow Dr. McLachlan to see possible tumors and other problems associated with the jaws.
